About Lone Star Defenders Office
Lone Star Defenders Office (LSDO) is a nonprofit public defense group based in Texas, founded in YEAR. As the main Indigent Defense Hub for Operation Lone Star, LSDO offers legal representation to thousands of immigrants and low-income people arrested through the state's border security program.
Our Story
LSDO began during an important time for indigent defense in Texas. In 2021, Philip Wischkaemper, who was then Chief Defender at the Lubbock Private Defenders Office (LPDO), started a program to provide lawyers for people arrested under Operation Lone Star. His leadership helped create what is now the Lone Star Defenders Office.
Amrutha Jindal joined as ROLE and continued Wischkaemper's vision. When LSDO became a nonprofit in YEAR, she became its Founder and Executive Director. The organization honors Wischkaemper's legacy, remembering him as SOMETHING ABOUT HIM who made a big impact in the legal community and beyond.
